It has been a while since I detailed who are flocking to the Valley of the Sun. The latest U.S. Census shows that by far the most movers to the Phoenix area are from Los Angeles, Long Beach and Anaheim. Tucson came in number two. Those from Asian countries were the third largest group. The Chicago land area was in fourth place, and the Central American countries fifth. Completing the top ten were Seattle, Riverside CA, Flagstaff, Mexico and Canada. I’m not sure why Flagstaff and Tucson are contributing so many new residents. The pricey and tight housing in Flag might explain the movement from there, but not Tucson as it is more affordable and has more reasonably priced inventory than metro Phoenix. The availability of jobs might be a better explanation. The diminution in the number of Canadians and Mexicans from past years can be explained by our strong housing market.
