For higher earners and retirees, moving from high cost states make sense. The top 5 states losing population in 2020 (according to United Van Lines) were New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Connecticut and California. Those gaining the most population were Idaho, South Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota and of course, Arizona. I’m not sure what percentage of the people moving to the Grand Canyon State from each state is, but the greatest impact to our state’s real estate market appears to be from California buyers.
They’re Moving to Lower Cost States.
