Preventing Delivery Blackmail. Be prepared for a demand for extra money by the mover when you reach your destination. Although rare, this problem occurred with enough frequency that Arizona passed a unlawful moving practices statute. The law prevents movers from refusing to unload your possessions if you have paid the amount you agreed to pay that was set forth in a written estimate or contract. If a mover tries to hold your stuff hostage on the truck, call the police. The call to law enforcement is usually enough to end blackmail attempts. Make sure you have the estimate or contract and proof of payment (if available) on hand on delivery day.
