Front yard grass is almost non existent in new and newer homes in the Valley of the Sun. And in the back yard, the great majority of those homes have limited or fake grass. Desert or natural landscaping is the preferred choice. This is the reverse of homes built in decades past, when people wanted to duplicate where they came from. Removing grass is also popular, with some metro Phoenix cities offering incentives to do so. As a result, per capita water use in the Valley of the Sun has declined, helping to offset our rapid increase in population.
