The Woke movement has hit real estate. Realtor.com and Redfin are deleting crime data listed on their websites because it could “perpetuate racial inequity.” Realtor.com removed its crime map from all search results to “level the playing field.”. Redfin doesn’t think crime data should be included on real estate websites because crime data does not accurately answer the question about how safe an area around a home is (huh?) Christian Taubman, Redfin’s chief growth officer says there’s “too great a risk of this inaccuracy reinforcing racial bias”. My comment is how else are we to evaluate safety? Obviously, crime data is the only way to tell how much crime a neighborhood has. The illogic continues with Taubman saying that crime data isn’t accurate because it excludes information about unreported crimes or those that go unsolved. How this somehow makes the reported data misleading is not explained.
