Foreign buying by Chinese has been strong across the United States for several years. In 2016 one reason was due to new capital controls were rolled out in January 2017, along with a new anti-money laundering framework. This accelerated buying before the deadline became came into effect. Because the law will reduce the amount of capital that can exit the country, Chinese international purchases are expected to slow down significantly in 2017.
