If you wanted to replace an old refrigerator or freezer in the past, your utility company could arrange for it to picked up and pay you $30. But that program was discontinued in late 2015. So what now? An alternative if you live in Phoenix is their pick up service. They will take your old fridge for $20. They will haul it away for free if you remove the Freon, but who knows how to do that or how to prove it was done. Otherwise check with your municipality to see if they have an equivalent program, or if your city’s periodic bulk service pickup will accept them.
