Net migration into the Phoenix metro area has remained strong for years. But where are these people coming from? According to U-Haul, through July 1, 2024, Californians using their trucks have supplied the most new Arizona residents. Second was Texas, then Colorado and Nevada with Washington in fifth place. Broken down by city, Los Angeles was first, Las Vegas second, Denver third, with Dallas and Albuquerque rounding out the top five. These statistics reflect the relative closeness of these areas. Traditionally Eastern and Midwest states (after California) have supplied the most movers to Phoenix and Arizona. Those new residents typically use the large moving companies to do the work for them due to the long distances involved. Those closer in have U-Haul as a viable alternative.
