How significant are foreign buyers of U.S. homes? Housing America released a study called Immigrant Contributions to Housing Demand which provides state by state statistics from 2000 to 2010, and estimates of immigrant purchases for the current decade. For Arizona, just over a quarter of all home purchasers are believed to be foreign born. From 2000 – 2010 the number of Arizona homes bought by foreign-born households was estimated to be 76,000. That was 27.3% of total growth in all homeowners, and made Arizona the 13th highest in the nation for global purchasers. For the 2010-2020 period, the projected share is 89,000, or 26.6% of the total growth in owner households.
