Builders tore down and reconstructed about 55,000 homes – or about 7.7% of all single-family housing starts last year, according to estimates by the National Association of Home Builders. As the housing stock continues to age and builders are hard-pressed to find suitable lots, the tear down trend is expected to grow. Although our Phoenix metro area has homes that are relatively young compared to other locations, custom builders routinely remove existing homes in order to build in the most popular areas, such as Paradise Valley and Scottsdale.
