The Return? In 1978 in order to extend the life of the Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, the series was colorized. But the process resulted in an artificial look, and the popularity for western based shows had passed, so the reboot was never aired. Attempts over the years to produce a Rin Tin Tin adventure movie have also failed. Lee Duncan sold many puppies over his life time, and some of those dogs had litters for the people who owned them. One of the recipients of a Rin Tin Tin related puppy claimed the legacy for herself after the death of Lee Duncan. Her claims and that of competitors to the name and breeding rights resulted in lawsuits, and so much drama the fighting between the participants was like that in “Tiger King”. Read about that saga and the whole story in Rin Tin Tin The Life and Legend, by Susan Orleans. But the true story of Lee Duncan and Rin Tin Tin is a compelling one, and seems perfect for a blockbuster about the use of dogs in WWI, WWII and in Hollywood. My guess is that some day when the time is right a movie will be made.
