A survey by the National Association of Home Builders revealed that two-thirds of builders said their greatest concern for 2015 is the availability of labor. Building material prices were ranked second at about 67% as well, followed by 57% of builders who said lot availability could be a problem.
This stands in stark contrast to a few years ago. In 2011, only 13% of home builders surveyed said labor availability was a concern and only 21% were concerned about acquiring lots. When it comes to labor concerns, most builders say they are most concerned about the availability of rough and finish carpenters, framers, and masons. More than 60% of the home builders surveyed reported some or serious shortages of carpenters.
